Well, I think this is a very sensitive question, and with the kind of experience that I have, if I need to pinpoint anyone then I would like to say that society is one institution that needs to be blamed for.

In a student's suicide, who is guilty- a student, parents, or IIT JEE, NEET, UPSC, etc.?

Well, I think this is a very sensitive question, and with the kind of experience that I have, if I need to pinpoint anyone then I would like to say that society is one institution that needs to be blamed for. I would imagine that part blaming can be done for anybody and everybody, which includes the person committing suicide to the persons or the institutions that are touching the person.

I think it is very important for them, as part of parenting, to let their children know the taste of failure. There is a lot of time, they become adults without tasting failure. If they are not experiencing the failure, it will be very difficult to deal with it. There are lots of failures as you start dealing with it, you become mature and stronger to really fight for bigger goals. Anything that is worth achieving is not possible without several intermediate failures. So dealing with failures has to be an important part, and, to some extent, parents have to be basically sensitive to this factor that they give their children the taste of failures so that they know how to deal with them.

Apart from that, the pressure of performance coming from an institute at times, college at times, these are something which is where they want to get their results out of the children, then they pressurize unnecessarily. Well, you can’t get results out of every student. They have to be very sensitive about it.

They can help the students to the level that they can possibly manage and not teaching fish to climb the trees and scholar to swim. And that’s something which is very born and lived, and then accordingly, one has to be sensitive about it.

Apart from that, the students have to be given a lot of the counseling sessions where they can speak up, and then the people around them, the institute, the parents, the friends, and the society in general should be sensitive to see the early signs of the suicide and then have sensitivity towards it.

There is nothing bigger than life, so one has to really respect and a respectful life, right from the beginning has to be taught. Students should appreciate and enjoy the life as it is given. It is the most precious thing that we have got. And I think if the society is sensitive towards the value for life, I am sure we would have a better citizens for our beautiful country in the times to come.

My best wishes.
