Exercise RED FLAG

The IAF contingent has reached the US Air Force’s Eielson Base in Alaska (USA) to take part in the Red Flag exercise.

Red Flag Exercise:

  • Red Flag is one of the most prestigious and advanced multilateral air combat training exercises organised by the US Air Force.
  • The Exercise involves multiple nations to enhance interoperability and combat readiness.
  • The US has been conducting this exercise with its friendly countries since 1975. 
  • The Indian Air Force participated in this exercise for the first time in 2008.

Exercise Overview: 

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) is participating in the multinational exercise ‘Red Flag 24,’ in Alaska, USA. 
  • The exercise will take place from May 30 to June 14, 2024, covering approximately 77,000 square miles.
  • The IAF has deployed Rafale fighter jets, C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft, and IL-78 air-refueller for the exercise.

More about the news: 

  • The Rafale jets completed a transatlantic flight with support from the IL-78 and C-17 aircraft, making stops in Greece and Portugal en route to the Eielson Base in Alaska.
  •  This year a total of 100 aircraft and 3100 airmen from the air forces of four countries are participating in Red Flag
  • The exercise will be conducted from two air bases in Alaska, Eielson and Joint Base Ilmendorf-Richardson.
