Training launch of Short-Range Ballistic Missile ‘Agni-1’ was carried out successfully from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.
About Agni-1:
- The missile is a proven system, capable of striking targets with a very high precision.
- Agni-1 was first tested in May 1989 under the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO's) Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP).
- It can destroy enemy targets at ranges of more than 700 to 900 kilometers with a payload of more than 1000 kilograms of both conventional and nuclear warheads.
- An even more advanced version of the Agni-1 missile, Agni-Prime, is also under development.
